Since 2004, Century Credit Union has proudly recognized local students who excel academically and make a positive impact in their communities. Our scholarship program is designed to reward achievement, leadership, and service – and it’s open to everyone.
A unique scholarship program
Unlike other credit unions that offer scholarships, Century offers two separate competitions:
- Ages 13-15
- Ages 16-18
Another difference: Students do not need to be members to apply, although membership does provide an advantage (as no further below).
Award details
Scholarship awards are applied directly to tuition at:
- A university or community college
- A trade or technical school
- Another type of accredited school
- A private high school
The money can be used for any year of secondary or post-secondary education.
Changes to program in 2026
The credit union has increased total scholarship funding from $3,000 to $5,000:
- $1,500 to the top in each age category
- $1,000 to each runner-up
We’re also transitioning from paper applications to accepting online applications only.

Essay topics for 2026
Essay topics vary by age group and change annually. For 2026, both topics focus on money.
- Younger students (13-15 years old as of Feb. 14, 2026): When you receive money – whether through allowances, gifts, or other ways – how do you decide whether to save, spend, or share it? Why is saving or sharing some of your money important to you, and how do you balance those choices? If you choose to share, who or what do you share your money with, and why?
- Older students (16-18 years old as of Feb. 14, 2026): What’s the most important money lesson you’ve learned so far, and how has it shaped the way you manage your finances today? Who taught you this lesson? Describe how this advice influenced your financial choices, and how you’ve applied it to your everyday life. How do you think this lesson will continue to guide you as you move forward?
Essays must be submitted separately by email to marketing@centurycu.org. There's no required length or word count.
Selection criteria
In addition to the essay, scholarship decisions are based on multiple weighted factors:
- Grade point average (GPA) including any AP/college courses taken
- Awards & honors
- Extracurricular activities
- Demonstrated leadership
- Community involvement
Membership advantage
Students with a Century Credit Union account receive an edge – any tie in scoring is awarded to the member. Non-members are encouraged to open before applying to enjoy the benefits of free membership and maintain their account going forward.
Deadline
The deadline for 2026 applications and essays is Saturday, February 14, 2026.

Scholarship namesakes
Century’s scholarships are named in honor of two former volunteers at the credit union who are remembered for their dedication and service – Louis Kovarik, and William Pauly.
We encourage eligible students to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to support their educational goals.
