Educational & fun websites I recommend checking out
As the mascot for Century Credit Union's Dollar Den Kids Club, I take my job of educating youth about money seriously.
Below are some of my favorites. If you have some of your own, let someone at the credit union know and share the address with them. I may add the site(s) to this list.
- U.S. Mint Coin Classroom — Use coins to teach kids math and finance concepts. Educational resources focus primarily on grades K-6.
- ABCya — Introduces kids K-5 to what each of the different coins is, how to recognize them, and what they're worth. Other interactive games include Dolphin Dash, an educational multi-player game where kids practice counting money.
- World of Cents — A fun and engaging game for kids ages 5 and up designed to teach the value of money through the concepts of earning, saving, and spending money, while incorporating basic math concepts.
- Georgia Public Broadcasting — One of the games on this site puts your middle-school child in the role of a movie producer and teaches them about budgeting. They'll be given a $100 million budget to create a 5-star movie.
- BizKid$ — This national financial literacy initiative based on the Emmy Award-winning public television series teaches kids about money and business.
- Which group is worth more? — Compare two groups of money by adding up the coins in each and determining which has more.
- Hit the Road — This financial adventure game takes you on a virtual road trip across the country, but the journey is not an easy one. You must save and spend your money wisely to complete challenges along the way.
- PBS Kids — Games on topics like animals, nature, adventure, math, etc.
- Crayola — Free coloring pages, DIY crafts, videos to support children learning through creativity (topics like animals and pets; games, puzzles and play) and more.
